BRIEF HISTORY OF CHRIST LIFE BAPTIST CHURCH
Christ Life Baptist Church, Omo West Area Osogbo, was founded on 15th June, 1986. The Church was formerly known as Olorunlabake Baptist Church, and it was established by Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ayetoro, Osogbo, presently it belongs to Fellowship Baptist Association. The postal address of the Church is P.O Box 2209.
The Advent of Christ Life Baptist Church was as a result of persistent complaints by some members of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ayetoro, Osogbo who lived far away from the Church. They based their complaints on the premises that the Church was far and that was the reason why they were coming late to the Church Services and programmes.
The leader of the church then, Mr. J.O Ogunkola enjoined the people concerned to look for a convenient place where they could gather for worship every Sunday. The people chose late Madam A. A Fanowopo’s nursery home, though it took some time before the woman consented to the request. The people involved in the negotiation were late Deacon A. A. Durotoye, Late Pa. J. A. Bamigbade and Mr. M. O. Oyetunji. Thereafter, a delegation from the mother Church, i.e Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ayetoro Osogbo. Made up of Messers. J. O. Ogunkoya, Oni A. Adegboye and Mrs. Ayanshina paid a “thank you” visit to late Madam Fanowopo. History was made on Sunday 15th June 1986 when the leader of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Mr. J. O. Ogunkola performed the dedication of the new Church. He read from 2 Timothy 2:11–26, and about 335 worshippers, including members from the mother church were present on Sunday 22nd June 1986, Church service started as Mr. E. A. Adekanmi read from Ephesians 2:1-10, and twenty-three worshippers were in attendance. Mention must be made of foundation members, who include late Rev. & Mrs. Iragberi, Mr. & Mrs. Akinwumi from Iwo, Mrs Afainiya from Igabjo, Prince & Mrs. S.O Akindele from Ogbomoso. The foundation members also include those who were not from Ebenezer Baptist Church, Osogbo, such as late Madam Fanowopo from Igbajo, Mr. & Mrs. M. O. Oyetunji from Iresi, Mrs. R. A. Durotoye from Osogbo, Mr. & Mrs. S. T. Abosede from Iresi and late Mrs. Funmilayo Akinyemi from Ada.
On Sunday 20 July 1986, it was decided that there was need to Christen the Church. To this end, members were asked to submit their proposals. On 15th August 1986, it was resolved that the church should be named after the nursery school that was hosting it. Thus on Sunday, 17th August 1986, it was unanimously agreed upon that the name of the preaching station be known as Olorunlabeke Baptist Church, Omo West Area, Osogbo.
At inception, Mr. J. O. Akintola and Mr. E. A. Adekanmi were deployed from the mother church, Ebenezer Baptist Church Ayetoro, Osogbo to lead the daughter church. Mr. T. O. Abiola had a spell of time before the mantle of leadership fell on Mr. T. O. Agboola who spent only a little time before the mantle fell on Mr. J. A. Faboye (late Rev. J. A. Faboye). Mr. J. A. Faboye was the leader of the church between January 1990 and July 1997.
